Oakville Performance & Wellness' sport psychology consultant, Brien Chamney, works with athletes and coaches in either one-on-one or team settings to address the critical aspects of learning and sport performance. During his sessions, Brien facilitates the development of mental and emotional skills, techniques, attitudes, perspectives and processes for the purposes of personal development and performance enhancement. The sessions involve the use of traditional mental skills and incorporating them into practical and relevant training protocols. These skills and strategies are designed for both training and competition. Our methods utilize the proven scientific research in the field to deliver innovative performance solutions and strategies to athletes and teams in a practical manner. The one-on-one sessions are customized to fit the needs and goals of the individual.
These scheduled sessions with athletes and coaches are aimed to explore past and present performances. Through collaboration, we seek to discover what works and what has not worked for a particular athlete. By relying on the knowledge and experience of the athlete or coach, our goal is to facilitate awareness and deep understanding of one’s performance, and then teach the development of skills and strategies to enhance future performances. These sessions provide an environment for reflection and self-discovery. Ultimately, we encourage and empower our athletes to become self-reliant and take responsibility for their training and performance.
During the sessions we:
Assess mental strengths and weaknesses as an athlete
Discuss performing despite a negative environment (conflict with teammates or coaches)
Debrief performances and training sessions
Help guide athletes to reach their desired destination
Guide athletes through difficult transitions of new teams, cities, coaches, etc.
Help athletes understand how to be mentally prepared and ready
Facilitate the commitment and motivation necessary to perform
Explore the physical and psychosocial dimensions of well-being and performance
Help teams improve cohesion, teamwork and cooperation
